About this collection

The Manufacturing Pasts collection contains sources relating to the history of manufacturing in Leicester, selected from the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland and the University of Leicester Library by subject experts at the University of Leicester’s Centre for Urban History. The collection includes photographs, factory plans, company publications, insurance plans and maps.  These relate both to selected factories, such as N. Corah & Sons, Liberty Shoes Ltd and D. Byford & Co., and areas of Leicester, including Frog Island and the West End, illustrating their growth, peak, and subsequent decline during the 20th Century.

Resources from this collection have been used in our Manufacturing Pasts - Learning Resources collection.
